Greece has been a lifelong dream destination of mine, and now that I’m finally heading there this September, it feels almost surreal. As I finalise my itinerary, I wanted to write a wishlist-style post about the experiences I’m most looking forward to. This guide to things to do in Greece isn’t just about ticking off tourist spots – it’s about soaking in the culture, history, and laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle.
Things to Do in Things to Do in Athens: Arrival, Ancient Sites & Buzzing Neighbourhoods
Arrival & Sunset Tour at Cape Sounion
I’ll be heading straight to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion for a magical sunset tour. Perched dramatically on a cliff, this ancient temple has a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea, and it’s said that even Lord Byron left his mark there. What a dreamy start to the trip and one of the most peaceful things to do in Greece.
Acropolis, Parthenon & Plaka
No trip to Athens is complete without walking through the Acropolis and the Parthenon. These historic landmarks are the heart of ancient Greek civilisation and the birthplace of democracy – absolute musts on any list of things to do in Greece. After the tour, I plan to enjoy brunch and explore Plaka, one of Athens’ oldest and most charming neighbourhoods filled with colourful homes and quaint cafés.
Delphi Day Tour & Athenian Nightlife
A day trip to Delphi, once believed to be the centre of the world, is on the cards. I’m excited to learn more about the Oracle and the myths that surround this sacred site – definitely one of the more mystical things to do in Greece. Back in Athens, I’ll wrap up the day with dinner and a casual bar crawl through the buzzing nightlife districts like Psiri.
Things to Do in Santorini: Clifftop Views & Romantic Vibes

I’m very sure there are many things to do in Santorini, but with time and budget constraints, we’ve decided to keep it a 2-day trip and move on to other islands (Mykonos and Paros) to fully immerse ourselves in what Greece has to offer. Here are a few things we are planning in Santorini:
Fira to Oia Hike
I’ll be taking a morning ferry to Santorini, checking into a hotel in Fira. After a quick lunch at Kaliya, I’ll set off on the scenic Fira to Oia trek. This 10km trail offers jaw-dropping caldera views – one of the most iconic things to do in Greece. I plan to catch the sunset from Ammoudi Bay before dinner at the iconic Ammoudi Fish Tavern.
Aegean Sunsets
I’m keeping this day a bit slower – exploring Fira in the morning before boarding a luxurious catamaran cruise that includes swimming, snorkelling, and sunset views. In the evening, I’ll visit Volkan on the Rocks to watch Mamma Mia! under the stars – because when in Greece, right? It’s these fun, unexpected things to do in Greece that I’m most looking forward to.
Things to Do in Mykonos: Culture, Beaches & Stylish Nights
Elegant Mykonos Evenings
Mykonos has always been known for its cosmopolitan charm. I’ll be dressing up for dinner and drinks at the iconic Interni – expect chic vibes and al fresco glamour. Adding a stylish night out is one of the most fun things to do in Greece, especially in Mykonos.
Delos Day Trip & Mykonos Icons
An early morning cruise will take us to Delos and Rhenia, both renowned for their rich mythology. Delos is considered the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and is one of Greece’s most sacred archaeological sites – a top pick for history lovers seeking things to do in Greece. After returning, I’ll relax at Platis Gialos Beach, explore Little Venice, shop at Matoyianni Street, and maybe even catch the sunset at Super Paradise Beach.
Day Trip to Paros
Paros is known for its villages like Lefkes, Podomos, and Marpissa, where I’ll explore cobbled alleys and have lunch at the beloved Charoula’s Taverna. After some beach time at Golden Beach and a drink at Cabana Beach Club, I’ll return to Mykonos and end the day at Scorpios, one of the most iconic sunset bars in the Cyclades. Day trips like this add to the diverse and exciting list of things to do in Greece.
More Things to Do in Athens: Food, Neighbourhoods & Culture
Athens Neighbourhood Wanders
Returning to Athens, I’ll be spending the day wandering Thissio’s café scene, Monastiraki’s flea market, and the upscale Kolonaki. I’m also planning to explore Exarcheia and Gizi, two alternative districts known for their underground art, music, and nightlife. The Athens Riviera will be the perfect spot to unwind by the water. Neighbourhood-hopping is one of the best local things to do in Greece!
Greek Cooking Class & Market Visit
What better way to wrap up my Greek adventure than learning to cook authentic Greek food? We are joining a hands-on cooking class paired with a visit to the bustling central market to shop for ingredients. I’m especially excited to try my hand at making classics like moussaka, spanakopita, and tzatziki – all made with fresh local produce. I’ve heard that the feta in Greece is next-level, and I’m eager to taste it fresh.
Foodie experiences like this are some of the most enriching things to do in Greece, offering a deeper connection to the culture through its flavours. The rest of the day is open for revisiting my favourite corners of Athens or grabbing one last frappé by the sea. Foodie experiences like this are some of the most enriching things to do in Greece.
Bonus: Greek Nightlife Energy

One of the most exciting things to do in Greece is to explore its vibrant nightlife, and each destination has its own unique vibe. In Athens, you’ll find buzzing bars and hip speakeasies tucked into artsy neighbourhoods like Psiri and Exarcheia. These spots are perfect for bar-hopping, live music, and mingling with locals. On the islands, the scene shifts to breezy beach clubs and upscale cocktail bars. In Mykonos, for example, places like Scorpios blend bohemian luxury with world-class DJs and golden-hour cocktails.
Whether it’s a sunset drink on the coast or a night of dancing under the stars, the nightlife in Greece is as diverse as it is unforgettable. Buzzing bars in Athens’ Psiri district to stylish beach clubs in Mykonos, nightlife in Greece is not to be missed. Whether it’s enjoying a sunset cocktail at Scorpios, dancing under the stars, or sipping ouzo in a low-key taverna, I can’t wait to experience the after-dark charm of Greece. Let’s not forget – experiencing nightlife is definitely one of the top things to do in Greece.
